About the course:
In spring 2020, teachers, instructors and faculty across the country had to abruptly transition their face-to-face courses online. However, designing a rigorous online or blended course is a time-consuming endeavor that requires much more than porting a face-to-face classroom to the web. Online learning calls for unique strategies that truly leverage the potential of technology.
The goal of this hands-on course is to prepare language teachers to tackle this task. This course is a good fit for teachers who wish to learn the best practices of online language education in order to design and teach their own online courses or to create online materials to supplement their face-to-face courses (hybrid/blended language learning). At the end of the course, you will have built a fully online unit that will serve as evidence of your newly acquired expertise in online language course design.
This 7-week fully online course is mostly asynchronous but not self-paced. There are weekly deadlines. All course materials (readings, podcasts, etc) are provided within the course shell.
LGTC 5035 is worth 2 graduate credits. It is an elective of the Teaching Language with Technology Graduate Certificate. Completion of this course counts towards the 12-credit graduate certificate program. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to download a transcript showing that you have completed the course.
Tuition and Funding:
You will need a reliable Internet connection and a recent computer (desktop or laptop, not a tablet) with a functional sound card and webcam.
