Welcome to the Flaxman Lab! Here's the short version of what you need to know about Sam and the members of the lab. We are evolutionary biologists interested in adaptation, genomics, food webs, communicable diseases, sustainable food production, and studying these things with predictive models. Besides us humans, there are no real organisms in the lab (well, there may be the occasional mouse). We are theoreticians, and we collaborate with others to work on empirical data.
As PI of the lab, Sam is committed to creating a lab environment that feels welcoming and inclusive for people from any background or identity. Sam is also highly dedicated to inclusive pedagogy and improving teaching by taking a collaborative and scientific approach to studying how we teach. Sam is also committed to continually educating himself about ways to decolonize higher education and to adopt anti-racist practices in all facets of his work and life.
