It takes a lot to start a business: hard work, passion, discipline, intelligence, and the list goes on. But sometimes it just takes cash. This Fall the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative launched the Get Seed Funding program so that students with ideas can get the money that they need to push their idea to the next level.

Ten incredibly passionate and innovative students have been accepted into the program and will be pitching their ideas to an audience at the Get Seed Funding Live Crowdvoting Event on November 29th. These students are asking for micro-grants of $500 or less to kickstart their ideas by making purchases for prototypes, software, and marketing materials. Whether the students get the money that they are asking for is up to the audience. At the Live Crowdvoting Event the students will pitch their ideas to the audience, and afterwards the audience will vote yes or no to each idea. If a student’s idea gets at least 50% of the audience to vote yes they will get the funding that they are asking for. Aside from financial support Get Seed Funding also gives students the opportunity to formulate a pitch, present to a large audience, and attract potential teammates and customers. Additionally, each student is given a mentor to help them prepare for the Live Crowdvoting Event.

The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative plans to run Get Seed Funding in the Spring semester as well. These means that CU Boulder could have at many as 20 student ideas receive micro-grants and kickstart their entrepreneurial dreams this academic year.
