Safety Spotlight

Facilities Management has multiple teams who work together to keep our campus up and running and who maintain such a beautiful environment.to accomplish these tasks. The number one priority for our teams is to remain safe every day. Our VCIS newsletter has started a program called “Safety Spotlight” to focus on a team or team member who supports our safety mission.
This month, our “Safety Spotlight” focuses on two of our arborists, Fred “Jim” Beveridge and Eric Jaskuta. Recently they demonstrated to Don Fitzpatrick, safety specialist, how they work as a team to keep each other safe. Their supervisor, Vince Aquino, has been with CU for over 25 years and sets the tone for safety best practices. Vince, Jim, and Eric maintain all the trees on campus which includes following safety best practices throughout the week.
Jim and Eric reviewed with Don how they “keep their eyes” on each other during the day. For example, they remind one another to use the correct PPE, to properly secure harnesses and ropes, and to conduct pre-and-post safety discussions.
If you would like to nominate a team or individual team member for our “Safety Spotlight,” please reach out to Don at donald.fitzpatrick@colorado.edu.
FM Safety Committee
The FM safety committee meets the third Tuesday of every month to discuss general safety concerns, review safety reports, on-the-job injuries and recommend training needs and resources. If you are interested in attending a meeting or bringing an issue or idea that is safety related, please reach out to your area representative on the FM safety committee or contact our Safety Specialist Don Fitzpatrick.
