Advisor: Professor Andrews • Cate is a sixth-year PhD candidate. Before arriving at CU, she spent time teaching at a public high school in northwestern New Mexico. That experience informed both her decision to pursue graduate study and her current dissertation project. Titled “Border Town, Native Nation: Rights, Sovereignty, and Proximity in the Four Corners Region,” the project traces a history of conflict and alliance between the Navajo Nation and its border towns from the 1920s through the early 1970s. Work on the dissertation has allowed Cate to deepen her historical understanding of the Four Corners, as well as build community-based relationships in the region. She expects to defend her dissertation in May 2024.

Cate is also a graduate instructor. She is excited to be teaching HIST 1025: U.S. History since 1865 in fall 2023.
