Leland Giovannelli presents a memory book to Clancy and Linda Herbst during a party at the Lesser House.

The biggest social event of the last year was the party for Linda and Clancy Herbst on Nov. 3. We co-hosted it with the college’s Advancement team, just to say thank you to Linda and Clancy for starting the Program and for sustaining it through the years.

The party was in the Lesser House, and included savory snacks (without black pepper, because Clancy cannot stand it) and desserts (with chocolate, because Linda loves it). Outgoing Dean Robert H. Davis started the thanks with a tribute to the recent tremendous growth of the program and its continuing importance to the College of Engineering & Applied Science. Then we heard from some alumni — two from the 90s! — and from current students.

Director Leland Giovannelli concluded the thanks by giving Linda and Clancy a memory book in which students and friends had written their Herbsty thoughts. Linda and Clancy were moved to tears. Clancy has said that of all the gifts he and Linda have ever received from the university (including plaques, Buff blankets, medals, and even a buffalo head), a book of student comments is by far their favorite.

If you missed the opportunity to write in the book, and you would like to send Mr. and Mrs. Herbst your thoughts, please use our online form. They would love to hear from you.
