(CTL) provides support for graduate student teachers and postdoctoral fellows who may be currently teaching and/or plan to teach after graduating/finishing their position here at CU. The CTL has revolving events, programs, certificates, microcredentials and can provide one on one consultations that can be tailored to the needs of the student/postdoc. The CTL offers both individual events and sustained programs throughout the year. To find out more, please visit our Events Calendar.
A three day workshop series before each fall semester, with events tailored to both incoming and experienced teachers. Events are posted by early August. Registration provides access to the Canvas Community Page where all information is provided to participants.
A weekly get together where graduate students, postdocs, faculty and staff discuss a new book each semester. Book clubs tend to run the first seven to eight weeks of a semester.
Graduate students can pursue one of two certificates through the CTL. These show potential hiring committees a teachers commitment to further developing themselves as college teachers. The CTL also offers semester and year-long cohort programs to help with completing the Certificate in College Teaching.
Continuing the growing trend in offering digital badging, the CTL provides the campus community the opportunity to show their dedication to education through several microcredentials ranging from inclusive pedagogy to teaching international students to college teaching principals (coming soon!).
Communities of Practice
The CTL offers several spaces where the campus community can get together to explore different aspects of higher education. Communities of Practice are meant to be a group of people who share a common concern or interest and come together to fulfill both individual and group goals. Currently, we offer an Inclusive Community of Practice as well as an Online Pedagogy Community of Practice.
Lead Graduate Student Fellows Program
The CTL’s Lead Network is a cohort of 50 graduate students across 45 departments and colleges on the CU Boulder campus. The program has existed for 30 years and is there to develop discipline specific programming and support. Keeping in line with the Graduate School’s recent creation of their Advising Agreements, the CTL has created an adaptable TA/Instructor Agreement that can be used before each semester that will help create a more transparent and supportive environment between instructors and their TAs.
