Immerse yourself in the Applied Shakespeare graduate certificate program! Begin with an online, fully interactive graduate introduction to the upcoming Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF) plays and other major Shakespeare works. Then, join your fellow students for an on-campus immersion at CU Boulder during the renowned Colorado Shakespeare Festival. You’ll explore acting, directing, interpreting and teaching Shakespeare in a fully interdisciplinary, experiential context with your fellow learners.
The program culminates in the completion of your own Applied Shakespeare capstone project, in which you create a presentation, workshop, paper, solo performance or script that intersects Shakespeare with a topic, specific population, or social issue of your choosing.
Teaching Shakespeare: New to 2021
We have a new online course starting Fall 2021 called Teaching Shakespeare. This course is open to all teachers and teaching artists; While it is part of our graduate certificate program, this course can also be taken independently of our graduate certificate. If you are taking this as a standalone course, no application is necessary; please email a brief statement of interest to the program director at appliedshakespeare@colorado.edu.

Not only does Applied Shakespeare offer a unique way of exploring how Shakespeare fits into our contemporary world and serves diverse populations, but with students coming from such varied backgrounds, each class session has been insightful and engaging, and our professors have been both incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging throughout the course and the initial stages of our capstone development.

What a lineup. This inspiring program provided us with face-to-face dialogue with the A-list of the leading Applied Shakespeare practitioners.
