I’m Marcia Walsh-Aziz, a PhD candidate in the speech, language, & hearing sciences department. My research has been based on describing language modality of children with cochlear implants, language skills of children with cochlear implants implanted at different ages, fingerspelling influence on language and literacy skills, and theory of mind development in children with hearing loss.
My interests for research are based on language development of children with hearing loss, an area in which Dr. Brenda Schick has been working for over 30 years. After looking at her studies and talking with her, I knew that I wanted her as my mentor through this PhD process.
Going to dinner on the Hill after a psycholinguistic class on language development with my classmates is one of my favorites memories so far at CU Boulder. We would go eat at The Corner restaurant and talk about our research, news, studies, the class, etc. for 2 to 3 hours, a couple nights a week.
