Sarah is the recipient of a National Geographic Young Explorers Grant. National Geographic provides these grants to help cover "field project costs for hard-working, passionate, creative individuals with great ideas".

Adrianne's essay was awarded 1st prize in the memoir category of the Thompson Awards for Western American Writing. Adrianne's essay was an autobiography about fear of avalanches and "funny" coping mechanisms while in the backcountry.

Austin Cowley, Ian Rowen, and Amelia Schubert have been selected as this years recipients of the department's Adam Kolff Memorial Research Fellowship. The fellowship provides $1500 toward research expenses for MA students.

Mason Auger, Abby Hickcox, and Adam Williams have been selected as the recipients of the Geography Department's new Environment-Society Fellowship. Funded by a generous gift to the department, each fellowship provides $12,000 to support research in environment-society relations. Afton Clarke-Sather has been selected by the Graduate School for a Summer Fellowship, which includes a three-month stipend to support his dissertation progress during the summer months. Afton's dissertation is tentatively titled "From the Heavens to the Markets: Development, Nation, and the Mediation of Nature in Northwest China".

Preston received this award through the Graduate School's John Marr Ecology Fund. Its purpose is to provide grants of $300 to $1000 for Ph.D. candidates doing field research in plant ecology in the Rocky Mountains or the Arctic.
