Biography

Leah Powers is a third-year Ph.D. student whose current research explores the changing relationships between humans and other-than-humans throughout nineteenth-century France and how this is represented in literature and visual art. She is particularly interested in the intersections of science, art, and nature and how contemporary scholars are repositioning these topics using a variety of disciplines. In addition to her research, Leah has served as co-chair for the CU Boulder French Club since 2017 and enjoys creating a sense of community in the classroom and beyond.

Prior to her doctoral studies, Leah completed the French MA program at CU and spent a year as an English Instructor at Lyceé Fernand Daguin in Bordeaux through the Teaching Assistant Program in France. She previously studied French at Miami University of Ohio, during which she spent a semester studying in Aix-en-Provence at the Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III.
