Apollo 13 Movie posterOur Friday Flick this week is Apollo 13 to honor the 50th anniversary of the launch tomorrow! Starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton as astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise respectively, this film goes into the details of the 3rd moon-landing mission that never made it to the lunar surface. Director Ron Howard devoted an incredible amount of time to recreating the settings of this film to be as accurate as possible. So much so, that the real Apollo 13 astronauts were blown away by the replications! The film even used NASA's KC-135 (AKA the Vomit Comet) to capture scenes including weightlessness. Most of the inaccuracies are minor, simply for drama or clarity. Did you know that the famous phrase "Houston, we have a problem” is not accurate to what Lovell said during the mission? Filmmakers altered the phrase slightly to "Houston, we've had a problem" because they thought it would sound more dramatic. Strap in for reentry and find Apollo 13 on Amazon Prime, Hulu, YouTube and more!
