FACULTY DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT

Alaa Ahmed is the first Faculty Fellow in the Office of Faculty Affairs to be focusing on community building by organizing and facilitating Faculty SPACE. The Shared Perspectives and Community Engagement (SPACE) project was created by participants in the Faculty Leadership Institute with support from the Provost to build a greater, more inclusive community for faculty from across campus. Faculty SPACE offers events designed for faculty across the CU Boulder campus, which combine socializing and discussing topics of importance to faculty. To that end, Alaa organizes community-building events for Faculty throughout the Academic Year, including a Welcome Back event and monthly gatherings around the campus.

Alaa is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and has been a faculty member at CU Boulder since 2008. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering and M.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. She earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
