Over the next several months, the Campus Controller’s Office (CCO), which is responsible for financial accounting, reporting, and financial stewardship at CU Boulder, will undertake a comprehensive realignment of personnel.

CCO has historically housed General Accounting and Sponsored Projects Accounting as distinct entities. After this restructuring, the successful area accounting model will expand to encompass all funds, including sponsored projects. Every department will be assigned an area accountant who will field all questions regarding funds management for any fund.

This new structure is intended to build an infrastructure that delivers on our strategic goals to provide high-level service and financial resources support for the campus. The specific structure changes were planned in response to formal and informal assessments conducted over the past year. CCO heard from campus department research administrators, principal investigators, faculty and staff from various areas in the campus community about service delivery concerns for sponsored research support. CCO will work with each unit during the implementation period to identify its CCO liaison(s) to ensure quality and continuity of service. A CCO all-funds advisory group will be convened to participate in setting service expectations and quality metrics from this restructuring.
