The Water Laboratory Alliance, is looking for an ORISE Research Fellow to join its group.

Project Description:

A postgraduate internship project is available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA), Office of Water in Washington, D.C. The internship will be served with the Water Security Division (WSD).

WSD is primarily responsible for implementing activities to assist water utilities (drinking water and wastewater) in protecting their infrastructure from service interruptions and increasing their response times caused by all hazards events, such as natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, fires, etc.), accidents, and intentional acts (e.g. terrorist attacks).                                                 

The participant will gain experience developing laboratory tools in support of WSD’s Water Laboratory Alliance, which is a network of national laboratories capable of processing a surge of analytical samples. The selected participant will interact with WSD staff and managers, other EPA federal programs, and stakeholders. S/he will continue his/her education and enhance their professional development through the practical application of learned skills. Specifically, s/he will interact with senior scientists within EPA to create tools to assist the laboratory sector respond to contamination events. Examples of these tools could include databases, new methods, and exercise to test laboratory surge capacity.
