Students,

The following Summer 2015 Global Seminars work well for Engineering students and are still accepting applications. Please consider if you have the interest!

Highlighted summer faculty-led Global Seminars to fulfill humanities/social science credits

Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation (Cocle, Panama) - Maymester

Panama is considered the fourth strongest economy in Latin America and one of the top 20 fastest growing economies in the world. However, strong economic performance has not translated into broadly shared prosperity. Participate in this Global Seminar to partner with local entrepreneurs and learn first-hand about the potential for business solutions to address poverty and related social and environmental challenges. Deadline = 2/15.  Interest meeting date has passed, but learn more at: http://studyabroad.colorado.edu/?go=PanamaGS

Democracy & Development in Bolivia (Coroico and El Alto, Bolivia)

Interest Meeting: Wednesday, January 28th in UMC 245, 4:00-4:30 PM

Earn 6 credits in 5 weeks in this off-the-beaten-path South American destination. Students will earn 3 credits for the Democracy & Development course, and then 3 credits for a research or service-learning project. Gain an inside perspective of the strategies and political organization of rural communities, and make a difference through your hands-on project.  Deadline – 2/15.  Pre-requisite = 2-3 semester of Spanish OR equivalent skills.

Jews & Muslims: The Multi-Ethnic History of Istanbul (Istanbul, Turkey)

Interest Meeting: Wednesday, January 28th in C4C N215, 5:00-6:00 PM

Spend two weeks this summer in Istanbul, exploring its multi-ethnic history with professor Nan Goodman. This 2-week, 3 credit global seminar will give you the opportunity to learn about Jewish-Muslim relations alongside local university students, and visit numerous cultural landmarks (including a Dervish Lodge)!   Deadline – 3/1.

Numerous additional summer (and fall!) opportunities exist and can fulfill various Engineering requirements.  Summer and fall deadlines range from 2/1 – 3/1 – visit the Study Abroad website for more information about options and your next steps: http://studyabroad.colorado.edu
