Jenean McGee, originally from Elk Grove, California recently received her M.A. from the University of Massachusetts Boston in American Studies. At the University of Massachusetts Boston McGee’s studies focused on African American popular culture. Her Master’s final project examined musician/activist/actress Abbey Lincoln’s participation and contributions in African American popular culture and politics from the late 1950s to the 1970s. In the Comparative Ethnic Studies program at the University of Colorado Boulder McGee intends to examine how women of the African diaspora engage with social media platforms such as YouTube, and Instagram.
