Jessica Lawson Headshot

Office Hours: M/F 1-2:30 PM at Innisfree Poetry Bookstore

Jessica Lawson’s work bridges the gap between creative practice and literary scholarship. Her poetry and hybrid work have appeared or are forthcoming in The Rumpus; Entropy; Yes, Poetry; The Wanderer; Dreginald; The Fanzine; and elsewhere. Her first book project, Gash Atlas (finalist for the 2018 Nightboat Poetry Prize), examines the interplay between sexual violence, white supremacy, and social erasure, eventually turning the lens of critique back on their own speaker. Jessica holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and an MFA from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Her previous scholarship on 20th and 21st century literature includes work on Kathy Acker, Toni Morrison, Sarah Kane, William Gibson, and Thomas Pynchon, and her current academic project explores the body politics of metaphor in contemporary poetry (from Danez Smith to the Undocupoets).
