Alessandro Sary
MA Student

Alessandro embarked on a master's in literature program at CU Boulder with a peculiar blend of prior accreditations including an Associate of Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Communication Studies, and proficiency as a tattoo artist extraordinaire. In this latter capacity, he has come to “publish” countless tattoos on living skin!

Throughout his literature studies in the English department, he has developed a keen interest in American and global graphic memoirs, African American literature as an integral part of American literature, and pedagogy. Alessandro feels that pedagogy is a natural continuation of his years in the classroom, albeit from a new perspective: that of educational facilitator. He is engaged in exploring inclusive classroom practices, critical thinking, media literacy, active learning, and inclusive grading, including the concept of "ungrading."

Beyond academics, Alessandro has ventured into a new personal project—a graphic memoir focused on a so far tense 2023. Finally, as tradition urges us to end this sort of thing with a note on hobbies, this year Alessandro swapped mixed martial arts for volleyball and renewed his focus on guitar playing—which, in accordance with his passion, must accompany singing! That means he should soon look for a vocal coach.
