Ryan Gill is the Wilfred and Caroline Slade Endowed Professor and the founder and managing director of the Colorado Center for Biorefining and Biofuels. Since joining the chemical engineering faculty in 2001, Gill has founded three startups – Opx Biotechnologies (acquired by Cargill), Biota Inc., and Muse Biotechnologies – and won the university’s Inventor of the Year award in 2010. Gill became associate director of the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute in 2012. His research focuses on new tools and applications for directed genome evolution aimed at more sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Gill earned his PhD from the University of Maryland.
