Advisor/Advisee Expectations

Growing up on the Mississippi River in a small Midwestern town, I spent most of my life in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and Missouri. When I started college, I was very interested in arts and art history. Then life happened, and my college plans halted for a time. When I later returned to college at Western Illinois University, I studied elementary education with an emphasis in science. I fell in love with the sciences, and I took every science and outdoor science education class I could. While student teaching for a middle school science teacher, I got into a graduate program from the University of Iowa for geology and physical science education. The program included a summer field trip to Colorado. After several years and a number of adventures that allowed me to fulfill my creative needs (working for a French company, selling commercial interior design, selling real estate, attending culinary school, working for a chef), my childhood dream came true, and we moved to Colorado in 2001. When I first came to Colorado, I worked for CSU in the Registrar’s Office. Later, wanting to be closer to home, I took an advising position at CU Boulder for the Leeds School of Business. In 2006, I moved next door to the College of Engineering and Applied Science as an academic advisor for the Department of Computer Science, and the rest is history. I love the opportunity I have each day to meet and work with so many talented students, staff, and faculty. It’s the one-on-one interaction with all of these folks that I enjoy most about my job.

You can find me, my husband (Billy), and our black lab out and about most weekends…on walking and hiking trails, camping, and taking in all the beauty Colorado has to offer. With two grown children not too far away (son Brian and family in White Bear Lake, MN, and daughter Emily and family in St. Louis, MO), life is very full and truly enjoyable!
