Biography

Alex earned an ME in Engineering Management in 2021. He has been with NIWC Pacific (US Navy) for over 19 years and is currently an ISR Site Engineer. His work experience at NIWC also includes leadership positions as NIWC Pacific GAEN NGA N2W Chief Engineer, MAX European EUCOM/AFRICOM Liaison Officer, DCGS-N Inc 2 Capabilities Assessment IPT Lead, and Naval C4I Systems Engineer.

Alex has a proven track record of success in engineering leadership, organizational development, and communication to successfully execute and deliver capabilities for Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) on many different types of programs/projects, resulting in leading the integration, deployment and transition of technology as the Chief Engineer for the GAEN project and co-leading NIWC Pacific's Colorado Springs strategic plan. He has led transformational changes for National Geospatial Agency’s (NGAs) N2W Division in developing and implementing future technologies in the areas of Wireless Technologies, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality & Geofencing capabilities. Through IPTs, he has lead several strategic technology initiatives, most recently the USSPACECOM Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) infrastructure systems implementation.

What made you decide to pursue a degree or certificate in Engineering Management?
My interest in higher and continued education.

Why did you choose the Engineering Management Program at CU Boulder?
The strength and reputation of the university, program and ability to do the program remotely. 

How did the program help you in your career?
The Engineering Management Program has helped push my career forward. As part of the leadership at NIWC Pacific, it is important to ensure we can continue to push boundaries in engineering.

What was your favorite graduate EMEN class/professor? Why?
Professor Daniel Moorer. The Engineering Communication class was one that I didn't think I would like on paper. The class turned out to be one of my favorite classes - it allowed me to take a step back, analyze myself and learn something new. Loved it.

What advice would you give a new student in the program?
Enjoy the program. Though I was a remote student with a full time job, if you can take advantage of the onsite programs.....there is a lot to offer.

How would you summarize your experience with the program? 
Great experience overall. Glad the program worked with me through several overseas tours of duty. Took a little bit longer, but overall a great program.
