College and University Recycling Coalition
CURC supports collegiate recycling programs through technical assistance, education, and training. They organize and host a Webinar series, hold one regional workshop and one national workshop, publish a quarterly newsletter, develop best-practices manuals and toolkits and help connect members through an active email listserv (RECYC-L) and through informal gatherings in conjunction with state and national conferences. CURC also partners with innovative programs such as the RecycleMania® Tournament and the Game Day Challenge.
National Recycling Coalition Campus Council
The NRC’s Campus Council enables collaboration between higher ed and the sustainable materials management industry. The Council offers scholarships, hosts a network of young professionals, maintains an internship program and a speakers bureau, and advances applied research and development centers. The Council supports the National Standards Certification Board (NSCB) to accredit certification programs run by states, regions, organizations, trade associations, universities, and community colleges. The Campus Council also advocates for higher education in the National Action Plan for Sustainable Materials Management.
Post-Landfill Action Network
PLAN is a national network of student leaders working to end the cycle of waste in their campus communities. By joining PLAN, your campus group gets access to a variety of support, discounts, and other resources.
The group also coordinates an annual conference
Solid Waste Association of North America : Young Professionals
SWANA’s group for individuals in the solid waste industry 35 or younger. They offer networking opportunities at events, conferences, webinars, and resources. SWANA’s National Solid Waste Design Competition (SWDC) is a student team competition to solve a “real world” problem faced by solid waste professionals.
US Composting Council: Young Investigator Scholarship
The goal of the Young Investigator Scholarship is to bring attention to emerging young professionals in the field of compost research and to spark interest in the future of the composting industry. Recipient of the scholarship will be awarded funds to support their research and education. The recipient will be invited to display a research posted at the USCC Conference. US Zero Waste Business Council
The U.S. Zero Waste Business Council and its campus group are creating campus-specific programs for certifying campus facilities that meets the Zero Waste Principles of the Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA).
Zero Waste Youth USA
Zero Waste Youth is a youth-led movement that gathers those who believe in a world without waste. They disseminate and apply Zero Waste principles, promote Zero Waste practices and empower youth through learning, vision building and actions in order to redefine what we consider “waste”.
UPSTREAM Policy
UPSTREAM works with cities at the state level and corporations to lessen the adverse affects of plastics on the environment by developing stronger circular economies where products are designed with safe, sustainable materials with renewable energy at the source.
Product Stewardship Institute
The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) is a national, membership-based nonprofit committed to reducing the health, safety, and environmental impacts of consumer products across their lifecycle with a strong focus on sustainable end-of-life management. We take a unique product stewardship approach to solving waste management problems by encouraging product design changes and mediating multi-stakeholder dialogues. With 47 state environmental agency members, along with hundreds of local government members from coast to coast, and 100 corporate, business, academic, non-U.S. government, and organizational partners, we work to promote product stewardship across North America.
Electronics TakeBack Coalition
The Electronics TakeBack Coalition (ETBC) promotes green design and responsible recycling in the electronics industry. Our goal is to protect the health and well being of electronics users, workers, and the communities where electronics are produced and discarded by requiring consumer electronics manufacturers and brand owners to take full responsibility for the life cycle of their products, through effective public policy requirements or enforceable agreements.
CA Product Stewardship Council
The California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) is a powerful network of local governments, non-government organizations, businesses, and individuals supporting policies and projects where producers share in the responsibility for managing problem products at end of life.
Clean Production Action
CPA’s unique role is to translate the systems-based vision of clean production into the tools and strategies NGOs, governments and businesses need to advance green chemicals, sustainable materials and environmentally preferable products. Critical to CPA’s success is working closely with existing networks across the globe, developing new partnerships, learning about emerging technological trends and associated environmental health problems, and developing and communicating essential solutions. The (AF&PA) is the national trade association of the forest products industry which manufactures pulp, paper based packaging, and wood building materials. These products are sourced sustainably and the association works to have a thriving business that can support U.S. manufacturing jobs all while keeping detailed critical statistical research data about the forest products industry.
Association of Postconsumer Plastics Recyclers
The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) is a national trade association which represents companies throughout the recycling system. These companies obtain, recycle, and then sell more than 90% of the post-consumer plastic processes in America.
Glass Packaging Institute
Originally named the Glass Container Association of America in 1919 The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) is the trade association for the North American glass container industry. The institute is comitted to developing environmental and recycling policies, educating professionals, communicating industry standards and promoting glass as a packaging choice within the industry.
Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries
The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) is a private non-profit trade association representing more than 1,600 private and public for-profit companies. They work to promote safe, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible recycling through networking, advocacy, and education.
Northeast Recycling Council
The Northeast Recycling Council (NERC) works to promote sustainability in the solid waste management industry. It is a multi-state non-profit organization committed to developing environmental preferable purchasing (EPP) which should hopefully decrease resources that are difficult to manage in the industry.
Solid Waste Association of North America
The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) works to integrate education, advocacy, and research into the solid waste management industry. Their core purpose is to advance the responsible management of solid waste as a resource, with a committment to education, advocacy, collaboration, and respect.
Steel Recycling Institute
The Steel Recycling Institute (SRI) promotes research pertaining to steel and how it affects the industry in various ways. They work by analyzing processes of the most recycled material in the world through research, and hopefully increase the efficiency of the life cycle of steel.
The US Composting Council
The USCC is a non-profit organization that works to develop and promote the recycling of organics through composting. It acts as an informational platform for education on composting itself, and how to start composting on your own.
Waste360
Waste 360 acts as an educator for any information on the waste industry and how professionals are working to create new waste systems to be more efficient and sustainable. Waste 360 works to reach into the industry through its event "WasteExpo" and by providing digital information through its website.

Biocycle Magazine delivers monthly issues and publishes articles focused around composting, organics recycling, anaerobic digestion, and renewable energy.
