Franklin Field

CU’s most sustainable tailgate zone

Sustainability at Franklin

Franklin Field is a zero-waste, car-free tailgate zone located to the east of Folsom Field and adjacent to the Indoor Practice Facility.  This pesticide-free, natural grass turf field serves as Buffs' outdoor practice field.  On Gamedays, no glass is allowed in the premises in order to protect fans and players.

Zero Waste Stations can be found on Franklin, making it easy for fans to properly dispose of waste. At each station, a recycling, compost, and landfill bin are provided as well as a Zero Waste Goalie to assist with proper disposal. Last year, Franklin Field was the most sustainable tailgate zone on campus, diverting 33% of waste from landfills

ALL tailgate tents come stocked with compostable foodware, provided by EcoProducts. It is convienent and cost effective for tailgaters to use compostable serviceware rather than environmentally harmful food serviceware such as traditional wide-mouthed plastic cups, which are not recycleble in Boulder county. Additional compostable materials are provided in an easily accessable EcoProducts tent located on Franklin Field and fans can easily dispose of these items at our numerous zero waste stations.

Tailgaters on Franklin Field will also be given the chance to participate in the annual Tailgater of the Game competition, which begins on September 23. The most sustainable tailgate tents will be evaluated based on various green practices and awarded with a "Tailgater of the Game" flag and a signed football.
