Dave is the co-leader of the Cannabis Industry and a Partner at Michael Best Friedrich LLP’s Venture Best practice group. As an alumnus of Colorado University Law School and the Deming Center Venture Fund team, Dave focuses on helping start-up and early growth companies with all of their business needs. He helps clients navigate entity formation, corporate finance, contract negotiations, compliance, investment and capital, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and other transactional matters.
Dave frequently works with investors and fund formation, including venture capital funds, angel funds, and accelerators. As an entrepreneur who has launched two start-ups of his own, Dave enjoys assisting start-up clients in overcoming the business and legal challenges they may encounter as they grow their businesses. He has particular expertise in the areas of natural foods, craft brewing, and cannabis. In addition, Dave provides corporate counsel services to clients in the blockchain and other digital technology spaces
Earlier in his career, Dave helped launch the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network of Colorado to support Colorado’s late-stage, high-growth companies. In his fellowship role as director of company relations, Dave worked with the former Dean of the University of Colorado School of Law, Phil Weiser, to launch this unique program, funded by the Blackstone Charitable Foundation. Dave frequently speaks for local bar associations as well as at start-up growth business and community events.
