July 14-16, 2014

CWEST Director Dr. Diane McKnight’s Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) Characterization Lab hosted two workshops at the University of Colorado-Boulder for researchers investigating DOM. Five students from Clemson University and Utah State University attended.

At the Fluorescence Workshop that took place July 14th and 15th, participants learned how fluorescence spectroscopy can provide information on DOM characteristics, received hands on laboratory training, and learned about developing Parallel Factor Analysis (PARAFAC) models for analyzing DOM data using the Cory-McKnight model as an example. At a follow-up PARAFAC Workshop on July 16th, participants received more in-depth instruction on creating their own PARAFAC models.
