CWEST's Education Chair, Tad Pfeffer, has led an effort, known as the Randolf Glacier Inventory or RGI, to map all of the world's glaciers. The effort, conducted in support of the fifth IPCC Assessment, provides information that is useful for assessing past and potential future changes in glacier mass and volume as well as for estimating glacial contributions to sea level rise. A Journal of Glaciology article describes the methods used, sources of uncertainty, and ways to improve the inventory in the future.
