Tim Oakes is Professor of Geography and Director of the Center for Asian Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is the author of Tourism and Modernity in China (1998), and co-editor of several volumes, including Translocal China (2006), Travels in Paradox (2006), Reinventing Tunpu (in Chinese, 2007), The Cultural Geography Reader (2008), Faiths on Display (2010), Real Tourism (2011) and Making Cultural Cities in Asia: Mobility, Assemblage, and the Politics of Aspirational Urbanism (2016). His papers have appeared in The Journal of Asian Studies, China Quarterly, Modern China, Eurasian Geography & Economics, Society & Space, Economy & Space, and International Journal of Heritage Studies, among others. He has been a Visiting Professor at several institutions, including University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, Wageningen University, Guizhou Minzu University, and University of Technology Sydney. His most recent research focuses on infrastructural urbanism in China. He currently directs the China Made project, funded by The Henry Luce Foundation. The project explores the ‘China Model’ of export infrastructure development in Asia.
