Maya Averbuch is a freelance reporter based in Mexico City. She has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, the New Republic, Foreign Policy, WIRED, Medium and The Progressive. She covers asylum and immigration, including recent policies that have primarily affected people migrating from Central America. She has reported on the migrant caravans, deportees returning with their families, young men who have left gangs, and family separation practices. Averbuch is a graduate of the Yale Journalism Initiative and a recipient of the Parker Huang fellowship and the International Women's Media Foundation fellowship.
