Jamison is an expert on manic depressive illness and is the critically acclaimed author of books such as An Unquiet Mind, Exuberance: A Passion for Life, and her recent memoir Nothing Was the Same. She is professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and an honorary professor of English at the University of St Andrews.
