Aruna Kalyanam has been on staff with the House Committee on Ways and Means since 2001. Her work is focused primarily on federal tax policy, including health care and pension tax issues, as well as issues regarding the federal budget. Kalyanam’s areas of expertise include individual taxation, economic development taxation and energy taxation. She has worked on a number of important pieces of legislation during her time with the committee, including the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act, the American Taxpayer Relief Act and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Kalyanam also worked for California congressman Xavier Becerra, a member of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. Prior to joining Ways and Means, Kalyanam worked on Capitol Hill in the office of Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY). She is a graduate of the Washington College of Law at American University and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis. In her free time, you can find her adding stamps to her passport and going on culinary adventures in the greater D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area.
