"These Little Piggies"

This exhibit by the Governorís Office of Energy Management and Conservation shows how biomass is turned into energy through the use of an anaerobic digester, benefiting air and water while reducing the utility costs. In the town of Lamar, Colorado, 6200 hogs at Colorado Pork LLC produce 17,646 tons of manure annually. When methane from this manure is captured and burned to make electricity it can produce 43,000 kwh of electricity per month. Running at 70% of capacity this equates to a monthly saving of $3,292 in electricity costs. If increased to 90% of generating capacity, savings can reach $4,233 per month.
