Daniel Szafir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, the ATLAS Institute, and, by courtesy, in the Department of Information Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is also an affiliate of the CU Research and Engineering Center for Unmanned Vehicles (RECUV), the Center for Neuroscience, and the Culture, Language, and Social Practice (CLASP) program. Dr. Szafir directs the Interactive Robotics and Novel Technologies (IRON) Laboratory, which focuses on developing new ways to augment human capabilities through technology, with applications to collaborative work, space exploration, and education. His work has been featured in a variety of news outlets, including Engadget and New Scientist. He received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where his research was supported by a NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship.
