Activators of Change - A Grounded Knowledge Panel™
The Crown Institute presents a Grounded Knowledge Panel™ (GKP) co-convened by Valerie Joseph, PhD (AEMES Mentoring Administrative Director, Smith College) and Donna Mejia, MFA (Associate Professor, Department of Theatre & Dance and Crown Institute Inaugural Chancellor’s Health and Wellness Scholar in Residence).
A Grounded Knowledge Panel is a public conversation by a small group of people who have realistic, authentic and personal experience and understanding of a particular topic or question. As the Grounded Knowledge Panelists converse among themselves, audience members are invited as principled “witnesses” to observe the discussion and engage in a process of dynamic attention. Both groups — panelists and witnesses — bring a distinctive power and depth to the experience of speaking and listening.
Panelists (in alphabetical order):
- Charles Brack; NYS Certified Peer Specialist at UnitedHealthcare; Producer/Director of Dreams Deferred: The Sakia Gunn Film Project
- Ali Duncan; Founder, Urban Sanctuary Yoga and Healing Center in the Heart of Denver’s Historic Black Community, Five Points
- Pedro Silva; Associate Minister, First Congregational Church of Boulder, and curator of The Roofless Church
- Dr. Michael J. Thomas; Superintendent of Colorado Springs School District 11
