Vanessa is a licensed psychologist in the state of Colorado. She became a senior staff member at CU in 2019 after completing both her doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at CAPS. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings including university counseling centers, a VA hospital and sexual trauma treatment center.
She takes an integrative, strengths-based approach to treatment that emphasizes the collaborative nature of the client/therapist relationship.
Vanessa has training in mindfulness-based approaches (DBT and ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT) and CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), psychodynamic psychotherapy and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT).
Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, Vanessa enjoys being active and exploring outside.
The thing I'd most like to do is
Vanessa's initial goal when starting at CU was to complete The Boulder Trail Challenge, which she successfully did in 2019! Now she is focused on exploring many of the waterfall hikes around Colorado.
