July’s Monthly Ethics & Compliance Education Series welcomes Sarah Braun, Associate Director of Information Risk and Compliance, and Catherine Oja, Compliance and Policy Analyst, to lead a conversation about ethics and data governance for members of the CU Boulder community.

CU Boulder, like the society at large, is able to use increasing amounts of data and emerging technology to inform decisions regarding a wide variety of opportunities important to the university.  To enable the strategic use of data and avoid the ethical challenges associated with “big data initiatives,” CU Boulder is in the process of developing these principles specific to the use of university data that aligns with our goals for academic and research success and the values that underpin our ability to achieve these goals.  This session will be a great opportunity for you to preview and provide input into the principles and they welcome any and all feedback!

During the session, Sarah and Catherine will facilitate a discussion on:

  • The draft document of Ethical Data Use Principles for the CU Boulder campus.
  • How do we use data to positively impact the likelihood of academic success, employee and student engagement, or operational effectiveness in a meaningful and impactful manner?
  • How and where data is collected at the university and what that data might be.
  • Your thoughts and comments on data use principles at CU Boulder.

Ample time for audience Q&A will be provided.
