November’s Monthly Ethics & Compliance Education Series will feature a presentation on the ways the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the American Disability Act (ADA) intersect, with a focus on employee rights and supervisor responsibilities.

Presented by Molly Freeman, Senior Employee Relations & FMLA Consultant with Human Resources and Lauren Schipper, Senior ADA Compliance Consultant in the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance, this informative session will benefit supervisors as well as employees in developing an awareness of the two laws as well as understanding of the resources available on campus.

Attendees will learn about the specifics of the FMLA and the ADA while also gaining knowledge on how the ADA accommodation and the FMLA request process work separately and in conjunction to ensure compliance and provide support to employees.  Molly and Lauren will also explore ethical considerations for supervisors to keep in mind and provide tips on what to look out for, how you can support and best ways to have effective conversations with employees around accommodations in the workplace.  Jointly they will speak to not only the two laws, but how the two offices work together to provide the best possible support for university employees.

During the hour session, ample time for audience Q&A will exist to allow for a full understanding of the processes and resources in place.
