April’s Monthly Brown Bag Series will feature a presentation by Michael Roseberry, Director of ADA Compliance in the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance on the subject of disability access for events.

At the University of Colorado Boulder, individuals with disabilities are entitled to access, support and when appropriate, reasonable accommodations.  Accommodation needs or requests can come into the university from a faculty or staff member as well as a visitor to our campus attending a meeting, conference or event.   The ADA Compliance team serves as a resource by advising the campus on reasonable accommodations and working proactively to continually develop an accessible university through education and issue resolution.

In his presentation, Michael will provide a general overview of the current regulations and share how they relate to attendees at events on-campus.  Attendees will gain valuable insight on current topics such as physical access, sign language interpreting, closed captioning, assisted listening devices, and service animals.  In addition, Michael will make available a practical checklist for how to assess a facility for accessibility in the planning stages of an event.  During the hour session, case study discussions will provide opportunities to dive deeper into the topics shared in Michael’s presentation.  Ample time for audience Q&A will exist during and following the presentation.
