May's Monthly Brown Bag Series will feature a presentation by Carolyn Peet, Interim Director of University Risk Management for the University of Colorado Boulder on the subject of best practices in hosting minors on campus.

At the University of Colorado Boulder, numerous activities and programs involving volunteers, trainees and minors occur each year.  These activities and programs play a key role in supporting the Chancellor’s Strategic Imperatives of shaping tomorrow’s leaders and positively impacting humanity.  University Risk Management recognizes that these programs may pose additional responsibilities and increased exposure of risk to participants, as well as to the university.  In an effort to assist campuses in effectively managing the risks and requirements, several resources including guidelines, checklists and waivers are available for use by program managers.

In her presentation, Carolyn will provide a general overview of the current Child Protection Policy and share important updates applicable to anyone working with a youth program on campus.  Attendees will learn of current resources available on the University Risk Management website including a Risk Assessment Checklist, Waivers, Consent Forms and Camp Insurance information.  Carolyn will review the Volunteer & Employee Protections as a part of the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (CGIA) and provide access to best practice tools such as a Volunteer Checklist and Waivers.  During the hour session, ample time for audience Q&A will exist to allow for a full understanding of guidelines in place.
