Deborah Méndez Wilson (née Quintana Vigil, Jour/Poli Sci ’93) is director of strategic communications for diversity, equity and inclusion at CU Boulder. Before transitioning into public relations, she was a bilingual journalist in the United States and South America, filing breaking news and feature stories for the Associated Press, Reuters, The Daily Journal (Caracas, Venezuela), USA Today, USA Today’s Hispanic Living, Wireless Week, Colorado Outdoors, and other high-tech and mainstream newspapers and magazines. Since 2005, she has served as a spokesperson, writer/editor, and strategic and crisis communicator on the Anschutz Medical Campus, at CU Boulder and in the CU Office of the President. She has also served in communications roles at the Regional Transportation District and at the Colorado Division of Wildlife. A fifth-generation Coloradan, Méndez Wilson was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado, and her Indigenous and Hispano/Latino family roots in the American Southwest run centuries deep. She is a proud CU Boulder alumna and parent of a Forever Buff.
