Golden, Colo., native Jack Jones (Econ) spent a year and a half on Wall Street in New York City before realizing stocks weren’t for him. He now works three jobs: Tends bar at Red Rocks, runs his own wine company and plays forward for the Colorado Switchbacks, a professional soccer team based in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In May, Marty O’Connor (Film) received an MBA from Chapman University alongside his mother, who received an honorary MBA for attending every class with him to help him take notes. A 2012 accident left Marty a quadriplegic. He lives in Orange County, Calif.

Christie Petrosino (Engl) married Roman Payan (Advert’11) on Oct. 22, 2016, at the Boulder Country Club. The couple met at Cosmos Pizza on The Hill in Boulder during their undergraduate years at CU. Many fellow Buffs attended the wedding. Christie and Roman live in Los Angeles and both work in advertising.

After spending a few years in Asia observing people eating insects, former Marine Corps officer Dave Baugh (Mgmt) and twin brother Lars started a sustainable cricket-based protein brand. Lithic, an Aurora, Colo.-based venture, creates products that are gluten, soy and lactose free, and their cricket-based bars contain more than 15 grams of protein. Dave writes that around 80 percent of the world eats insects regularly and says that they were ready to get Americans on board.

The Alaska Arts Confluence held the first installation of original maps by local cartographer Jeffrey Moskowitz (Geog) in December. The installation highlights areas of southeast Alaska using up-to-date satellite imagery, topography and bathymetric features. He acquired data for his maps from NASA, the U.S. Geological Survey and NOAA. Jeffrey combined his love for backcountry recreation with his training in cartography to start his own mapmaking and publishing business, Hemlock Lines of Haines, in 2015. His art aims to help humans identify themselves in the surroundings they can’t see in everyday life.

After receiving her law degree from Gonzaga University, Amanda Hensen (Class, Engl) joined Sherman & Howard LLC’s Denver office as an associate. She is in the firm’s litigation, trials and appeals practice group, one of the largest in the Rocky Mountain region. At Gonzaga, she served as editor for the Gonzaga University Journal of International Law and the Gonzaga University Law Review. Amanda also is a guardian ad litem with the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center and a member of the Colorado Women’s Bar Associations.

Mark Arnoldy (Psych), the CEO of Possible, a nonprofit delivering low-cost healthcare to the poor, was named one ofForbes magazine’s top 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneurs in January 2014. Prior to Possible, he worked closely with a Nepali social entrepreneur for three years to help treat malnourished children and also helped create two U.S. businesses to fund Nepal nutrition programs.

After completing more than 930 hours of unpaid public service legal work, Ashley Steele (Psych’10) was recognized by the University of Texas law school as a “Pro Bono Superstar.” She had the highest number of hours in her graduating class. She also was given a one-year fellowship with the Initiative for Public Interest Law at Yale Law School to work with the nonprofit Texas Defender Service, which advocates for fair and just criminal systems in Texas. Ashley’s project is to establish a statewide public defender office for Texas death penalty appeals.

As founder and director of Peruvian NGO ConCiencia, Daniela Benavides (EPOBio’10) is focused on bringing Peruvian students outdoors to enjoy direct experiences with nature. Her organization works with some of the most underserved fishing communities in Peru. Daniela was asked to speak in Sydney, Australia, as the keynote speaker at the IUCN World Parks Congress.
