Ahammed Junaid NP is an Assistant Professor, Department of Communication, Amity University, India. He was a visiting scholar at the Center for Media, Religion and Culture at the University of Colorado Boulder, USA from January, 2016 to April, 2016. During his stay, he delivered a lecture at the Center on Islamic religious communities online and digital ethnography, and contributed to the seminars at the Center. As a public speaker in the broader areas of ‘Islam and digital media’, he delivered lectures in USA, UK and UAE. He has submitted his doctoral dissertation on “expression and formation of the religious identity: exploring the case of Diasporic Malayalis” at MICA, Ahmedabad, India under the supervision of Prof. TT Sreekumar. He was chosen for the young scholar award given the “methodological adaptation in his research” by an expert committee of Prof. Christine Garlough, University of Wisconsin Madison, USA and Prof. SirkkuKotilanen, University of Tampere, Finland, at the international communication and management conference held at Ahmedabad, India in January, 2017. His research interests include “digital Islam”, “identity formations online”, “culture and communication”. He teaches a full fledge course on “communication and media research techniques” to the PhD scholars at Amity University, Jaipur. Presently, he is conducting research projects on political Islam and networked technology, Sufi networks online, and how netnography can be adapted as a research methodology within media studies.
