Nadia Kaneva, PhD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Media, Film, and Journalism Studies at the University of Denver. Her research draws on critical social theories to explore the commercialization of politics, culture, and identities after the end of the Cold War. She is particularly interested in nation branding and public diplomacy with a regional focus on post-socialist Europe and the former Soviet Union. She is the editor of Mediating Post-Socialist Femininities (Routledge 2015), Branding Post-Communist Nations: Marketizing National Identities in the “New” Europe (Routledge, 2011), and co-editor, with Stewart M. Hoover, of Fundamentalisms and the Media (Bloomsbury 2009). Her research has appeared in numerous scholarly journals and edited collections. Before becoming an academic, Nadia worked in advertising in her native country, Bulgaria, and in the US
