Christopher Barnes earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and politics from Lake Forest College in Illinois and a master’s in communication from the University of New Mexico. His research focuses on media institutions and audiences; race, gender, class, and sexuality in popular media; and social movements and their media use. His dissertation explores the communicative practices, structures, and texts central to the resurgence in activist efforts to bring political legitimacy to democratic socialism in the current historical moment in the United States. Teaching experience and interests include media theory, history of media, and public speaking.
