Master's Student

Kelsey Simpkins is a writer, photographer and artist working on her master’s degree in journalism. In 2012, she graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a BA in art and a minor in environmental studies. She also attended the Smith College Summer Institute in art museum studies in Northampton, Massachusetts. Her undergraduate research and work in art, art history and participation in musical ensembles led her to freelance writing in the arts and music scenes after moving to Minneapolis. She has written for Walker Art Center, Sofar Sounds, Bandsintown and Billboard Magazine among others. While in the Twin Cities, she worked full time in nonprofit development, communications and social media management for social service and environmental organizations. Now in Boulder, she works in the Center for Environmental Journalism and is eager to study reporting and multimedia storytelling. She also enjoys hiking and cycling, podcasts, nearby state and national parks and getting down to Denver for live music.
