Melanie Sidwell (she/her/hers) is a PhD student curious about the intersection of media, activism, and philanthropy, and she is a member of the Philanthropic Informatics Lab with Dr. Amy Voida. Melanie is the director of communications for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education and has worked in a variety of roles in higher education, including marketing and communications, alumni relations and advancement roles, since 2008. Prior to that, she was a newspaper reporter in Colorado, Florida, and Nebraska. A first-generation college graduate, Melanie earned a master’s degree in media studies from CU Boulder and a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She is a fiercely proud mama, and she’s happy to answer your questions about growing up near Scranton, PA (yes, like “The Office”).
