Himan Abdollahpouri is a PhD student in the information science department at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is a member of That Recommender Systems Lab under the supervision of Prof. Robin Burke who is one of the pioneers in the recommender systems research area. Himan's thesis is on recommender systems and personalization. In particular, he is working on the problem of popularity bias and the challenges it creates for the recommendations. He holds a BS in computer engineering and also an MS in artificial intelligence from Bu-Ali Sina University and Iran University of Science and Technology, respectively. During his PhD program, he has done two internships at Pandora Media in the summers of 2017 and 2018 as a research data scientist working on machine learning and recommendation algorithms for improving the performance of their music recommendations. He has served as the co-chair of VAMS and RMSE workshops at the ACM Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys) in 2017 and 2019, respectively. In addition, he has several publications in some of the top conferences on recommender systems and data mining such as ACM RecSys and ACM UMAP.
