Critical Media Practices

Kevin Sweet is an artist and educator whose research and practice explores the intersections of memory, performance, and play. His work takes the form of intermedia performance, installation, and virtual reality experiences.

He is currently the Director of Media at Guestbook Project, an international non-profit promoting the power of digital storytelling as a means of healing divisions caused by religious and cultural beliefs, by war, acute poverty or injustice, and a principal investigator with Sound Planetarium, a VR astrophysics and art collaboration rethinking how we can understand our universe as a kinesthetic and participatory experience. Prior to starting his PhD at University of Colorado Boulder, Sweet was based out of Boston, making work and teaching at Boston College and Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He was the Technical Director & Animator of Twinsome Minds—an intermedia performance re-interpreting Dublin’s 1916 Easter Rising which opened in Jan. 2016 at the Abbey Theatre and toured 16 cities worldwide—and the head of creative development for JoyceStick, a VR adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses based at Boston College.
