Bernardita Yunis was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, and has lived in the United States since she was 10 years old (1996), growing up in Miami, Florida. In 2008, she received a BS and BLA in communication studies, international studies, and religious studies from the University of Miami, and in 2015, she got her MA from Penn State in rhetoric. Before moving to Denver, Bernardita taught a Latinx Identities and Stereotypes First-Year Writing course at the George Washington University for 3 years where she also worked as the Faculty Mentor in the Writing Center, supporting faculty and writing consultants in their work with multilingual writers. At CU Boulder, she is continuing her graduate studies, writing on identity, recovery, performance, and the immigrant, Latinx, and Palestinian experiences through her PhD in communication studies, rhetoric, and culture concentration with a critical race theory and decolonial orientation.
