  • Recruitment and Hiring of Temporary Faculty
  • How to get published in The Conversation

Spring 2021 classes begin on Thursday, Jan 14, with remote instruction. All classes on Friday, Jan. 15, will follow the Wednesday meeting schedule.

The campus intends to resume in-person instruction with on-campus student activities and experiences on Monday, Feb. 15, and will provide an update by Jan. 14, to confirm the university’s plans.

The decision of whether to resume in-person courses on Feb. 15, will be based on COVID-19 conditions at the time, projected case trends through the end of the semester, and where our county is on the state COVID-19 dial.

Complete Required Trainings

All faculty, staff and students are required to complete the COVID-19 Safety Awareness Training.

Request Approval for On-Campus Teaching, Research Creative Work and Academic Support Activities

For those faculty, staff and graduate students on teaching appointments who need to be on campus regularly to fulfill their in-person duties, CMCI has partnered with the CU Boulder Research and Innovation Office’s (RIO) return to campus process to track and approve requests for the fall semester.

  • Submit your request via this link. Subsequent approval of request is valid for the entire Fall Semester, 2020.
  • Prior to completing the form individuals must review the Boulder Campus HR guidance on returning to campus for employees to determine whether or not they meet the current criteria to return to campus.

We understand that this fall semester will be unlike any we’ve experienced before. Thank you for your dedication to the learning and research mission.

If you have any questions, please contact the CMCI Dean’s Office via email or call (303) 492-4364.

Staff Who Need to Visit Campus

After completing the required COVID-19 Safety and Awareness online training, email CMCIDeansOffice@colorado.edu with the intended date and campus location(s) to coordinate your access. Don’t forget to complete the Buff Pass (health form) before your visit.

Health and Safety

  • Daily Health Form and Illness Reporting
  • Symptoms and Guidelines
  • Faculty and Staff Testing Options
  • Contact Tracing

Anytime faculty, staff and students are on campus, they must complete the Daily Health Form prior to arrival. Information from the forms are collected by the campus health department and are used to help track and contain the spread of COVID-19. Student employees should note that they must fill out both the Daily Student Health Form and the Student Employee Health Form on days when they are scheduled for work.

Learn more about the Daily Health Form, contact tracing and illness reporting »

Anyone with symptoms should be tested. In general, you do not need a test if you do not have COVID-19 symptoms. Use the CDC Self-Checker to guide you to make a decision and seek appropriate medical care.

The CDC recommends testing for anyone in close contact with someone who is infected. The incubation period (the time between being exposed and developing symptoms) is two to 14 days, with about 50% of people showing symptoms around day 5. For the most up-to-date information, visit the CDC’s website.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of illness:

  • Stay home
  • Complete the form
  • Notify your supervisor

Supervisors are required to complete the form on behalf of their employee (faculty, TA, GPTI, RA, staff) in addition to the employee’s completion of the form and to follow campus guidelines for supervisor responsibilities.

As part of campus monitoring and contact tracing, employees will be able to be tested on campus if they are identified as having been potentially exposed.

If an employee is identified as having been potentially exposed on campus, that person will be informed of testing options as part of the campus contact tracing process. Campus leadership will announce more details in the coming weeks.

  • CU Boulder has worked to develop a collaborative approach to contact tracing, which reduces the burden on Boulder County Public Health and utilizes the unique community knowledge of CU-based contact tracers.
  • Contact tracing is a critical tool for controlling and reducing the spread of viruses. Learn more about the contact tracing process and what to expect »

Building Access

To access buildings, you should have your Buff OneCard with you. Students, faculty and staff will have Buff OneCard access to all academic buildings with scheduled, active teaching from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students, faculty and staff who normally have weekend and after-hours access to specific buildings will still have that access to those buildings.

Visit the Buff OneCard Office’s website for updated information on hours and procedures.

Navigating Facilities

Follow the designated traffic flow

  • Classroom entrances/exits: Fall schedules include a longer time between classes to reduce students having to wait to enter a classroom while others are exiting the room. Circulation plans will be unique to each building to eliminate bottlenecks and gatherings and many buildings will have designated entrance and exit-only locations. Signage will provide direction.
  • Outdoor spaces: When walking on campus sidewalks, please stay to the right side of the walkway to allow at least 6 feet from pedestrians walking in the opposite direction. There will be spaces on campus—inside and outside in tents—with Wi-Fi access so that you can study or participate in remote classes, if needed.
  • Elevators: Unless otherwise indicated by signage, no more than four persons may enter an elevator at a time, so please use the stairs when possible. If you are using an elevator, wear your mask/face covering and avoid touching the elevator button with your exposed hand/fingers. Wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer upon departing the elevator.
  • Restrooms: People are expected to keep at least 6 feet of distance in restrooms across campus. Please be mindful of the number of people inside a restroom and limit occupancy to ensure appropriate physical distancing. Wash your hands thoroughly after each use to reduce the potential transmission of the coronavirus.

Campus Dining Services

Retail markets, restaurants and cafes will be open to the campus community with various payment options accepted. Dining centers, including Alferd Packer Grill and grab-n-go locations, will be open only to residence hall students with meal plans. Most dining centers will offer only take-out services and campus community members can use the Nutrislice app or the Nutrislice website to view menus, place an order and schedule a pickup.

Recreation Center

The Student Recreation Center is currently open to students only. Access for faculty and staff will be reevaluated in the coming months. To gain entry, members must have an appropriate face covering (worn at all times inside the Rec Center), a membership and a valid Buff OneCard. Spaces––including the main weight room, annex weight room, climbing gym and indoor pool––may be reserved three days in advance through the Fusion portal.

Deep Cleaning and Sanitizing

  • Cleaning of Classrooms, Common Areas and Individual Offices
  • Use of Common Areas and Workspaces

Classrooms and high-touch common areas will be cleaned by the campus custodial teams each day. These teams will not be cleaning every classroom between classes, so faculty and students will have access to sanitizing wipes and are asked to wipe down their individual areas of use before and after class. To learn more, please visit Facilities Management Campus Infrastructure Mitigation.

  • Disinfectant wipes: Campus is providing disinfecting wipes in classrooms so that instructors and students have the opportunity to wipe the surfaces they will use during a given class period, i.e. desk, chair or podium. (The same wipes can be used for both hands and surfaces.)
  • Hand sanitizer stations: To provide students, faculty and staff added opportunities for sanitization upon entering and exiting buildings or after interactions with others, campus is providing an increased offering of hand sanitizer at all main building entrances and in public areas of campus buildings.
  • Disinfectant spray solution for private offices, kitchens, break rooms and meeting spaces: Each building on campus will have centrally located bottles of spray disinfectant and paper towels for faculty, staff and students to use when disinfecting their private offices and common areas. Individuals are responsible for wiping down their private offices, conference rooms, kitchens and break rooms before and after use. Please return the cleaning supplies to the central location after you have used them.
  • Deskside waste and recycling services are suspended. Please remove trash and recycling from your private office and deposit in your building’s common trash and recycling receptacles.

Common areas such as mail rooms and copier/work rooms will be available on a limited basis.

  • Common items such as pens, scissors, etc. will be removed to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.
  • It is strongly recommended that digital handouts be distributed to students in your classes to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. Distribution of paper handouts is discouraged.

Kitchens and break rooms will be available on a limited basis for food storage and heating.

  • Common items such as coffee makers, utensils, dishes, sponges, etc. will be removed to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.
  • Individuals are expected to clean the common kitchen and break room spaces before and after use. Cleaning supplies are located centrally in each building for use by faculty, staff, and students. Please use and return cleaning supplies when finished.
  • Food should not be consumed in the break rooms or kitchens, nor will it be allowed in classrooms or common areas. It is to be consumed outside the buildings or, by faculty and staff, in their personal closed-door offices. Food consumption in individual offices is restricted to one person only. For gatherings of more than one, please move outside.
  • Conference rooms, labs and study/gathering spaces will be available on a limited basis by reservation.
  • Individuals are expected to clean the common space before and after use. Cleaning supplies are located centrally in each building for use by faculty, staff, and students. Please use and return cleaning supplies when finished.
